LAS VEGAS -- Four-division titlewinner Jorge Arce dropped junior featherweight rival Jesus Rojas with a first-round left hook, but complained that he could not continue after being floored himself by a second-round low blow, an accidental headbutt a shot to the kidney and another that caused damage to his ear as their fight was declared a no-contest at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night.

Arce (60-6-2, 46 knockouts) told ringside doctors that he could no longer hear properly from a left ear which had absorbed a punch just prior to him hitting the canvas.

Arce had hoped to turn in a performance that would secure a fall bout with Nonito Donaire (28-1, 18 KOs), should Donaire get beyond a July 7 unification fight with Jeffrey Mathebula (26-3-2, 14 KOs).

Arce and Rojas (18-1-1, 13 KOs) combined to throw 170 punches in an exciting first round. Rojas out-landed Arce 39-36 in total punches, 39-30 in power punches and trailed, 19-7, in jabs landed.

Arce-Rojas took place on the undercard of a main event featuring Manny Pacquiao's defense of his WBO welterweight belt against Tim Bradley.
