THE RING heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko retained his various titles with a one-sided sixth-round stoppage of familiar foe Tony Thompson in Berne, Switzerland, on Saturday. It was a rematch of their 2008 bout, which Klitschko won by 11th-round KO.

Klitschko (59-3, 52 knockouts), who won his 16th straight fight, controlled Thompson with his jab until dropping the 40-year-old American veteran with a right hand near the end of the fifth round. Thompson (36-3, 24 KOs) bodly got up from the monster punch but he was overwhelmed in the sixth before the 36-year-old champ dropped him in a corner with 25 seconds left in the round.

Referee Sam Williams waved the fight off with 4 seconds left in the round as the Washington, D.C. resident tried in vain to get to his feet.
