Bob Arum said Julio Cesar Chavez could fight Brian Vera next, and eventually, Andre Ward.
Guerrero shoves Aydin at weigh-in
|
Robert Guerrero, whose welterweight fight with Selcuk Aydin on Saturday is his first bout above 140 pounds, made weight at Friday's weigh-in as expected but the normally mild-mannered former featherweight and 130-pound beltholder unexpectedly shoved Aydin after the undefeated contender shook his fist close to his face. Guerrero, who weighed in at 145¾ pounds, swatted down Aydin's right hand and then shoved Aydin back with both hands during their post-weigh-in staredown when he felt the Germany-based Turk's right fist got too close to his chin. Aydin, THE RING's No. 10-rated welterweight, weighed in at 146½ pounds for their scheduled 12-round bout, which is the main event of a Showtime Championship Boxing show from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The telecast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) with undefeated welterweight prospect Shawn Porter, 146¼, facing veteran Alfonso Gomez, 146½, in the co-featured fight and preliminary fights -- topped by junior middleweight prospect Hugo Centeno, 152, vs. Ayi Bruce, 151½ -- to air live on Showtime Extreme at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. British super middleweight contender George Groves, 169½, will take on Francisco Sierra, 170, on the Showtime Extreme broadcast. |
