"Knockout King" fighters make weight

The eight participants of Showtime's "Knockout Kings" quadrupleheader all made weight at the Friday weigh-in held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the site of Saturday's show topped by the Saul Alvarez-Josesito Lopez fight.

Alvarez, who will attempt to defend his WBC junior middleweight title against Lopez, weighed in at the division limit of 154 pounds. Lopez, who has fought mainly at junior welterweight, weighed in the heaviest of his career, tipping the scale at 153 pounds.

Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 knockouts) looked ripped. Lopez (30-4, 18 KOs) appeared solid but not ripped, though it should be noted that the tall boxer never had a particularly athletic-looking upper body.

Both of the co-main event fighters - WBC featherweight titleholder Jhonny Gonzalez and Daniel Ponce DeLeon - weighed under the featherweight limit. Gonzalez (52-7, 45 KOs), a former bantamweight beltholder, weighed in at 125 pounds, one pound under the limit. DeLeon (43-4, 35 KOs), a former junior featherweight titleholder, weighed in at 125.5 pounds.

Marcos Maidana and Jesus Soto Karass, who make up the one Showtime-televised bout on the Golden Boy Promotions card that isn't for a major title, both weighed in at 147 pounds, the welterweight limit. The two slugers are fighting for a high ranking in the WBA's welterweight ratings and a future shot at WBA beltholder Paul Malignaggi, who was present at the weigh-in.

Soto Karass (27-7-3, 17 KOs) looked leaner than he has for recent fights. Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs), who was a top contneder at junior welterweight, looked very solid and in much-better shape than he was for his welterweight debut against Devon Alexander, which he lost by decision in March.

Leo Santa Cruz weighed a pound under the bantamweight limit for his IBF title defense against Eric Morel  . Santa Cruz (20-0-1, 11 KOs) looked ripped at 117 pounds, as did Morel (46-3, 23 KOs), a former flyweight beltholder who tipped the scale at 118 pounds.
