Russell Jr., Olympians return on Nov. 9
Unbeaten featherweight Gary Russell Jr. will return to the ring opposite Russian Vyacheslav Gusev on Nov. 9.
Undefeated southpaw featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr., of Capitol Heights, Md., will return to the ring against Russian Vyacheslav Gusev on Nov. 9 on Showtime's ShoBox: The New Generation at Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, Calif,
Russell Jr. (20-0, 12 knockouts) will headline against Gusev (20-2, 5 KOs), owner of a four-bout winning streak, as part of "The Night Of The Olympians," which Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer informed RingTV.com in an earlier interview will feature the pro debuts of "five or six" standout boxers from the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Olympians to appear are Dominic Breazeale, Marcus Browne, Terrell Gausha, Errol Spencer and Rau’shee Warren, according to a joint announcement by Golden Boy and Showtime on Friday.
A former member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, Russell Jr., 24, was last at Fantasy Springs for his last fight in June, when he scored a third-round stoppage of Chris Perez of Mexico.
Russell will be in search of his third straight stoppage victory against Gusev, 26, who rose from the canvas to score a decision over Padjai Yongyuthgym in his last fight in April.
"The ShoBox series has introduced our audience to the new generation of world champions throughout its 10-year history,"said Gordon Hall, executive producer ShoBox and vice president of production, Showtime Sports.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. PT, with first bout to begin at 5:30 p.m. PT. The telecast will begin at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT, being delayed on the West Coast.
