RingTV Poll: Fans want Donaire to fight Mares-Moreno winner
|
Fans would rather newly crowned RING 122-pound champ Nonito Donaire stay at junior featherwieght and face the winner of the Abner Mares-Anselmo Moreno bout or undefeated beltholder Guillermo Rigondeaux than move up to the featherweight division, according to a recent RingTV.com poll. The poll asked fans who Donaire, who earned THE RING's vacant junior featherweight title with his ninth-round stoppage of Toshiaki Nishioka on Oct. 13, should fight next. More than 37 percent of 6,000 votes went with the Mares-Moreno winner. Mares, THE RING's No. 4-rated junior featherweight, will defend his WBC title against Moreno on Nov. 10 in Los Angeles. Moreno, the reigning WBA bantamweight titleholder who is rated No. 1 by THE RING at 118 pounds, is moving up in weight to challenge the unbeaten Mexican. Rigondeaux, the WBA's 122-pound titleholder, received 32 percent of the votes. The two-time Olympic gold medalist from Cuba is THE RING's No. 1-rated junior featherweight. Popular Mexican veteran Jorge Arce, who fights at bantamweight and junior featherweight, received a little over 12 percent of the vote. Featherweight standouts Orlando Salio, Mikey Garcia, Daniel Ponce de Leon and Billy Dibb each received less than 10 percent of the votes. |
