Boxing fans apparently want to see Danny Garcia fight Brandon Rios even if promotional rivalries could prevent it. In response to our latest poll question, “Who would you like to see junior welterweight champ Danny Garcia fight next,” 45.7 percent picked Rios. Garcia is promoted by Golden Boy, Rios by Top Rank. A sizeable percentage, 27.3, also would like Garcia to fight Golden Boy-promoted Lucas Matthysse. The rest of the list: Juan Manuel Marquez, 12.1; Zab Judah 4.5; Lamont Peterson, 4.2; Josesito Lopez, 3.2; Mike Alvarado, 1.9; and Pablo Cesar Cano, 1. Both Garcia, THE RING junior welterweight champion, and Rios are coming off sensational knockouts. Garcia stopped Erik Morales in the fourth round last Saturdday. Rios ended a close fight against Alvarado with a seventh-round KO on Oct. 13. As of Tuesday afternoon, 3,855 had taken part in the poll. |
