Danny Jacobs stopped journeyman Chris Fitzpatrick after five rounds of a scheduled eight-round middleweight fight on the Miguel Cotto-Austrin Trout card Saturday in New York, Jacobs' hometown.

Jacobs, making a comeback after surgery to remove a tumor on his spine, made a willing, but overmatched Fitzpatrick quit in his corner after being pounded for several rounds.

Jacobs (24-1, 21 knockouts) is 2-0 since returning from a 19-month hiatus. Fitzpatrick (15-3, 6 KOs) is from Cleveland.
