THE RING Magazine March issue: At a glance
Our 84th Annual Ring Awards, in which we select the best from 2012, are featured in the March 2013 issue of THE RING Magazine, which is on newsstands now.
Our 84th Annual RING Awards Issue for 2012, which is on newsstands now, gives us a chance to relive the best of the previous year.
No one will dispute the Knockout of the Year, Juan Manuel Marquez’s shocking one-punch stoppage of Manny Pacquiao on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas. That fight, the fourth between the rivals, will never be forgotten.
Many of the other categories weren’t so clear cut. One example: Fighter of the Year.
In our opinion, a good case could be made for two fighters: Nonito Donaire and Marquez. Donaire went 4-0 against elite competition in 2012 while Marquez, 2-0 last year, claimed an historic victory.
Who won? Well, a peek at the cover gives it away.
The rest of the categories (Fight, Round, Upset, Comeback, Trainer, Prospect, Event, Manager and Most Inspirational)? Check out the magazine to see who was selected as the best of 2012.
Another part of our year-end package is the annual Best Fighter Poll, in which 10 respected boxing journalists determine the best fighter in the world pound-for-pound. The winner won’t surprise you.
Contributor Don Stradley has a little fun with the Highly Unofficial Awards, a tongue-in-cheek look at the best of 2012 in 39 unconventional categories.
And, finally, we also unveil our year-end awards for the women in nine categories. Fighter of the Year? Hint: She’s from a European country not known for its boxers.
Also in the March issue, contributor Bernard Fernandez asks in A Lost Art? whether the quality of training and the number of good trainers is in decline. In Life After Boxing, Contributor Norm Frauenheim takes a look at the latest attempt – by the World Boxing Council – to establish a long-overdue pension for boxers.
And, in The Perfect Punch, contributor Ron Borges provides a detailed look back at the Marquez-Pacquiao fight.
