Taylor stops Cayo on FNF
|
Junior welterweight prospect Emmanuel Taylor got up from a fifth-round knockdown to drop and and stop former contender Victor Cayo in the eighth round of their Friday Night Fights main event in Atlantic City. Taylor (17-1, 12 knockouts) had trouble with Cayo's lateral movement and switch-hitting but was able to score with power punches whenever he pinned the 27-year-old Dominican veteran to the ropes. Although a right hook dropped Taylor in the fifth round, the 22-year-old boxer-puncher from Maryland resumed his pressure and finally caught and dropped Cayo in the eighth round. Referee Benjy Estevez stopped the fight at 1:11 of the round. It was Taylor's third consecutive victory since his only loss, an eight-round split decision to Prenice Brewer in 2011. In the co-featured bout of the ESPN2 broadcast, undefeated heavyweight puncher Magomed Abdusalamov (17-0, 17 KOs) stopped Victor Bisbal (21-2, 15 KOs) in the fifth round of their scheduled 10-round bout.
