Greenburg instrumental in Mayweather-Guerrero media blitz
Showtime has a mega promotional series planned in advance of the May 4 clash between Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero.
Former HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg will be instrumenntal in an all-out promotional blitz in advance of the May 4 Showtime Pay Per View defense by pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. of his WBC welterweight belt against two-division titlewinner Robert Guerrero. The network has scheduled more than 100 hours of diverse boxing and documentary programming across broadcast television, cable television, premium television, and digital portals.
Prior to Mayweather (43-0, 26 knockouts) and Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) entering the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Showtime will air two documentary films, a five-part documentary series, a 30-minute countdown show, and two live Showtime Championship Boxing broadcasts, as well as live coverage from multiple fight-week venues.
The initiative begins on April 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with the one-hour premiere of the documentary 30 days in May, which will address the 36-year-old Mayweather's 87-day jail sentence at the Clark County Detention Center that began on June 1 of last year and ended on Aug. 3.
A week later on April 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, Showtime will debut the latest chapter of its All Access behind-the-scenes series, which was orchestrated by Greenburg and will include new episodes each Wednesday through May 1. Encore presentations will air on the CBS Sports network. The All Access Epilogue will premiere on May 18 at 8:30, and spotlight the intensity of fight week.
On April 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. CBS will broadcast Greenburg's special one-hour documentary titled Mayweather, which will also examine Guerrero's story.
Over the course of the two Saturdays preceding Mayweather-Guerrero, Showtime will present an April 20 main event at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, featuring Mexican WBC junior middleweight titleholder Saul "Canelo" Alvarez against Austin Trout, and then, on April 27, RING, WBA and WBC 140-pound champion Danny Garcia makes a defense against ex-beltholder Zab Judah at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Both the Mayweather-Guerrero weigh-in on May 3 and a pre-fight show on May 4 will be broadcast live, and encore presentations of bouts featuring Mayweather and Guerrero will be shown over the Showtime and CBS networks leading up to the May 4 event.
Other features will include a live streaming of the final press conference on May 1, as well as Staredown, a show to be hosted by Brian Kenny featuring Mayweather and his uncle, Roger Mayweather, as well as Guerrero and his father Ruben.
Greenburg has plenty of experience working Mayweather fights, having announced his resignation from HBO in July of 2010 after having been at the helm since September of 2000, and was replaced by Ken Hershman, who accepted his current post in October of 2011.
"This is an aggressive and varied lineup of content, each element aimed at raising the anticipation for boxing's marquee event of the year. The Mayweather appeal is unmistakable and warrants this type of unprecedented exposure," said Espinoza, who once represented Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya and Mike Tyson as well as other athletes and personalities.

I thank my colleagues at Showtime and CBS for their support and enthusiasm since our agreement with Mayweather was announced. Our collective aim in the next seven weeks is to serve the insatiable appetite of the staunchest boxing fans as well as to expose a broad audience to the drama and the intensity that is sure to come on May 4."
For the digital audience, Showtime will present long- and short-form content, both live and edited, in English and Spanish on Sports.SHO.com and SHO.com. The content will be distributed to all partner and pay-per-view distributor websites.
