Video: Mayweather appears at NCAA's Final Four
Floyd Mayweather called Robert Guerrero "a solid, tough competitor" during Saturday night's interview on CBS between games during the NCAA's Final Four.
In advance of the Showtime Pay Per View-televised defense of his WBC welterweight belt against Robert Guerrero on May 4, pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. was interviewed on CBS between Saturday night's NCAA Final Four games at The Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Mayweather (43-0, 26 knockouts) appeared after Louisville's 72-68 victory over Witchita State, and prior to Michigan's 61-56 win over Syracuse, touting his clash with Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) that will happen at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas
"I feel good. I've been off for a year. But now, I'm back. I'm going to be active," said Mayweather, 36, who will make his first-ever appearance on Showtime Pay Per View against Guerrero.
"I can't wait to go out there and give the fans what they want to see. I just want to continue to give the fans some excitement. The fans have supported me for many years. The sport of boxing will live on."
An online report by Forbes' Magazine estimates that Mayweather's exclusive multi-fight venture with Showtime and its parent company, CBS Corporation, could be worth a guaranteed $250,000 million. Under the agreement with the network, the five-division titleholder cold fight six times over a period of 30 months.
The owner of a 15-bout winning streak that includes nine knockouts, Guerrero, 29, scored two knockdowns during November's unanimous decision over two-time 147-pound titleholder Andre Berto in his last fight.
"Robert Guerrero, he's solid. He's a solid, tough competitor," said Mayweather. "He's from the Bay Area in California, and he's a very, very busy fighter. He's strong, he's solid and we'll just see what he brings to the table on May 4."
