Amir Khan has an opponent.
The junior welterweight titleholder will face Paul McCloskey of Northern Ireland on April 16 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England,
The formal announcement will be made at noon (UK time) Tuesday at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
Khan (24-1, 17 knockouts) will be making the fourth defense of his WBA 140-pound belt, which he won by outpointing Andreas Kotelnik in 2009. The Briton is coming of a unanimous-decision victory over Marcos Maidana, the Boxing Writers Association of America Fight of the Year.
McCloskey (22-0, 12 KOs) is unbeaten but hasn’t faced the likes of Khan, although he holds the European junior welterweight title.
Khan and McCloskey failed to reach an agreement after a first round of talks, reportedly because Khan didn’t offer enough money, but were able to come to terms after going back to the negotiation table.
