Kelly Pavlik probably will face undefeated Alfonso Lopez of Cut and Shoot, Texas, on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard May 7 in Las Vegas, according to Pavlik’s manager Cameron Dunkin.
Dunkin said he was waiting to receive a tape of Lopez before deciding whether give his OK.
“He’s a big, tough guy,” Dunkin said. “I want to watch the tape. If we feel he’s the right opponent and he can make 168 pounds, we’ll go with him. If we don’t like what we see, then we’ll revisit other guys we’ve talked about.”
Brian Vera, who outpointed Sergio Mora on Feb. 4, and Joe Spina are among others under consideration.
Lopez (21-0, 16 knockouts) fought at 167½ pounds in his last fight – a 12th-round TKO of Romaro Johnson – but had been fighting at light heavyweight or heavier in previous fights.
Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) will be fighting for the first time since he lost his RING middleweight championship to Sergio Martinez via unanimous decision in April of last year.
