The list of candidates who might be next in line to fight super middleweight titleholderLucian Butejust got longer.
Jean Bedard, president of Interbox, said former middleweight titleholder Kelly Pavlikis being considered as the next foe for the unbeaten Canadian, who improved to 28-0 (23 knockouts) with a 10th-round knockout of Brian Mageeon Saturday nightin Montreal.
Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) has a May 7date to fight Alfonso Lopez (21-0, 16 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, his first ring appearance since he lost his 160-pound RING championship to Sergio Martinez in April of last year.
Former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler, who watched Bute from ringside Saturday, also has been mentioned as a future opponent. Bute also is expected to face the winner of Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic, in which Andre Ward, Arthur Abraham, Carl Frochand Glen Johnson are still in the running.
