Mercurial Ricardo Mayorga is hoping to return to the ring in September, and hopes his opponent will be undefeated Mexican star Julio Cesar Cavez Jr., according to notifight.com.
Mayorga (29-8-1, 23 knockouts) was stopped in the 12th round of a ferocious battle with Miguel Cotto on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, a bout for the WBA's "super" 154-pound title, but his stock went up from that competitive effort.
He announced his retirement that night on Showtime PPV, but reconsidered a day later, telling the media he would pursue three more fights.
Mayorga reportedly wants to resume his career in the middleweight division, hopefully against Chavez (42-0, 30 KOs), who is scheduled to fight Sebastian Zbik of Germany for the WBC middleweight belt June 4 in Los Angeles.
