3 reasons to be excited about Pacquiao-Mosley … and 3 reasons not to

The next installment of the Manny Pacquiao show is exactly one month away, on May 7, when he’ll face Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on pay-per-view television.

All true boxing fans will attend the fight or tune in because Pacquiao is Pacquiao, the No. 1 fighter and attraction in the sport. We don’t know how many more times we’ll the opportunity to watch the future Hall of Famer fight.

That said, there are reasons to be excited about this fight … and reasons not to. Here are three for and three against as RingTV.com kicks off its coverage of the biggest fight so far this year.

We can complain all we want about Pacquiao’s choice of opponent, a once-great but faded Mosley. The fact is that we’ll watch the Filipino icon fight anyone at this stage of his career. We proved it last year when he faced Joshua Clottey, a capable but relatively anonymous foe. It was once the same with Mike Tyson. We didn’t care who he knocked out; we just wanted to see him do his thing because it was tremendously exciting. The same with Pacquiao. He earned his place in the Hall of Fame with his domination of a gifted trio of Mexican fighters. He stunned us when he overwhelmed Oscar De La Hoya. He blew us away with his one-punch KO of Ricky Hatton, which was followed by convincing victories over Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. What next? What will he do this time to amaze us? Millions will be watching worldwide to find out.
