Robert Guerrero gave a tremendous performance against Michael Katsidis on the Marcos Maidana-Erik Morales undercard Saturday in Las Vegas, dominating the tough Australian en route to a one-sided 12-round decision.
Guerrero controlled the fight with a stiff right jab and hard left hands, which kept a frustrated Katsidis at bay for the bulk of the fight and made a mess of his face.
The scores were 117-108, 118-106 and 118-107.
Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 knockouts) could’ve made a bigger statement by stopping Katsidis (27-4, 22 KOs) but his utter domination of a respected opponent spoke loudly.
He clearly demonstrated that he is a legitimate threat to anyone at 135 pounds, the weight at which the bout was fought.
Katsidis was as game as ever but couldn’t figure out how to get inside against Guerrero for most of the fight. He landed some hard shots but they were infrequent and generally not damaging.
Katsidis lost two points because of low blows. Guerrero lost one for the same reason.
