Alvarez-Rhodes set for June 18

Saul Alvarez will defend the WBC 154-pound title he won from Matthew Hatton against another British veteran, Ryan Rhodes, on June 18 in the 20-year-old contender's native Guadalajara, Mexico.

HBO will televise the scheduled 12-round bout along with a junior lightweight fight between undefeated Adrian Broner and streaking former title challenger Jason Litzau on it's Boxing After Dark program.

Alvarez (36-0-1, 26 knockouts) won the vacant WBC belt with a 12-round unanimous decision over Hatton in March. The budding young Mexican star attracted more than 10,000 fans to the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., for the bout, which drew high ratings on HBO.

Rhodes (45-4, 31 KOs), a 34-year-old native of Sheffield, England, has won 10 consecutive bouts since his last loss, a 12-round decision to Gary Lockett more than five years ago.
