Robert Guerrero and Marcos Maidana are negotiating to fight Aug. 27 in San Jose, Calif., not far from Guerrero’s hometown of Gilroy.
“We’ll see if we can finalize it. We’re working on it,” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Ricahrd Schaefer, both fighters’ promoter
Guerrero, coming off a sensational decision over Michael Katsidis on April 9, would have to up from 135 pounds to 140 for the fight.
The two-time titleholder is considered a big lightweight. He weighed 138 when he outpointed Joel Casamayor last July, the most Guerrero has weighed for a fight.
Maidana defeated Erik Morales by a majority decision in his last fight on the same card as Guerrero-Katsidis. Morales’ remarkable performance in defeat overshadowed the Argentine’s victory.
