Is Greenburg leaving HBO?

Ross Greenburg, the longtime president of HBO Sports, is leaving the network, according to a report by Lem Satterfield and Rick Reeno of Boxingscene.com.

Greenburg was the overseer of the cable giant's long-running boxing programming, which was once lauded as the best in the world but had come under intense scrutiny in recent years due to a number of poor business decisions on the part of the executives in charge of making fights for the subscription network.

The removal of Greenburg, who replaced Seth Abraham as president of HBO Sports in 2000, is expected to be announced as early as Monday, according to the Boxingscene.com report. Greenburg, who has won numerous Emmy awards for his work on HBO's critically acclaimed sports documentaries, will no longer be employed by HBO but he will continue to work with the network as an independent producer as part of his severance package, according to Boxingscene.
