Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez could meet again in late October or early November if Salido gets past Kenichi Yamaguchi on Saturday in Mexico, according to matchmaker Sean Gibbons of Zanfer promotions, which handles Salido.
Salido (35-11-2, 23 knockouts) stopped Lopez (30-1, 27 KOs) in eight memorable rounds to take Lopez’s WBO featherweight title in April in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Lopez’s hometown.
Yamaguchi (17-1-2, 4 KOs) is 13-0-1 in his last 14 fights. He hasn’t lost since he was stopped by Kazuki Murakami in 2003.
"Juan Manuel Lopez is going to arrive in Mexico on Friday and he will be viewing the fight from ringside," Gibbons said. "JuanMa wants to see Orlando Salido again up close and personal. The whole idea is to do the Juan Manuel Lopez-Orlando Salido rematch hopefully at the end of October or the first week of November. We're just waiting for Top Rank to confirm the date."
