A junior middleweight clash featuring hard-hitting fighters Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland is “pretty close in terms of what HBO will pay for the fight,” and will likely take place on Nov. 5 in Cancun, Mex., according to a source familiar with the numbers.
The 29-year-old Angulo (20-1, 17 KOs) and the 27-year-old southpaw Kirkland (29-1, 26 KOs) are each handled by Golden Boy Promotions.
“This is a fight that both fighters want, and it’s a fight that I believe that the fans will want to see,” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.
“But it is not done, and I’m going to talk with [HBO's Senior Vice President of Sports] Kery Davis next week, and we’re going to see if we can get that done.”
