WBC/WBO bantamweight titleholder Nonito Donaire spoke to the media at the recent Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito II press conference in New York City. Donaire, THE RING's No. 1-rated bantamweight, will fight unbeaten two-division beltholder Omar Narvaez at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 22.
Donaire (26-1, 18 knockouts) said of Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KOs), a former longtime WBO flyweight beltholder and current WBO 115-pound titleholder:
"He knows how win. His expertise and experience means I have to take him seriously."
However, Donaire added that he wanted to make a statement against the 36-year-old Argentine veteran.
"Nonito is to be feared," is the message Donaire said he wants to convey.
