On Monday, Victor Ortiz, his manager, Rolando Arellano, and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, went on the attack against Floyd Mayweather Jr., calling his fourth-round knockout of Ortiz “controversial,” and doing their best to make a case for an immediate rematch.
As a brief recap: During the fight, Ortiz went to embrace Mayweather and to apologize for a third time following an illegal and intentional headbutt, for which he had been previously warned by referee Joe Cortez.
Mayweather briefly obliged before nailing Ortiz with a left hook, followed by a powerful, straight right. Ortiz, whose hands still were down at his side, was sent sprawling onto his back. He struggled to his hands and knees but failed to beat the 10-count of Cortez.
Arellano said Cotez did not appear to be looking directly at the fighters until the first of Mayweather’s punches landed.
De La Hoya called the actions of Mayweather (42-0, 26 knockouts) “bad sportsmanship,” Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KOs) called the finishing blow, “a cheap shot” and Arellano called Mayweather “a punk” who “pot-shots.”
On Monday night, Mayweather retaliated on his Twitter account with remarks aimed at Ortiz and De La Hoya.
Below are a few samples of Mayweather’s comments, some of them accompanied with links to photos to illustrate his point.
I left the fight in the ring but Oscar and Ortiz keep doing interviews crying like some Golden Girl b–ches. I will f–k both of you up.
I named this car “The Karate Kid”. It’s doing what Victoria Ortiz should’ve done. Put your hands up! http://yfrog.com/nv9amqhj
Does Victoria Ortiz want another rematch because he thinks he can win or does he want another payday?
Victoria Ortiz thought it was a head-butting contest. But that 2-piece gave him some act right.
Victoria Ortiz’s new nickname is “Take 2 of these and call me in the morning”
The only man who can beat me is the man in the mirror twitpic.com/6ratbt
Yes @FloydMayweather has a new avatar #TwoPieceWithABiscuit
I’ll give Ortiz a rematch but first he got to get passed Andre Berto.
