Sale of Pacquiao-endorsed cologne benefits chairity

Scent of A Champion, a cologne endorsed by THE RING’s No. 1-rated pound-for-pound and eight-division titlewinner Manny Pacquiao, will go on sale on Friday — the day prior to Pacquiao’s HBO Pay Per View televised defense of his WBO welterweight belt opposite RING and WBO/WBA lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Keep Memory Alive and the Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, which is currently engaged in the most comprehensive brain imaging study of professional boxers to date.

The Lou Ruvo Center has imaged the brains of over 100 professional boxers and mixed martial artists over the past few months, and the study will enroll 600 over the next four years.

“Manny thought this would be a great way to turn scents into dollars for a worthy charity,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz.

Only 800 bottles of the cologne, priced at $50 each, will be available for sale, with 50 of the bottles containing a pair of tickets to the local closed circuit viewing of the Pacquiao-Márquez III bout. Two of the bottles will contain a pair of tickets to the MGM Grand Garden Arena, site of the fight.

Sales will open in the MGM Grand lobby at 9 a.m. with a second outlet opening on Studio Walk in the MGM at 10 a.m. A third location will be available inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena when doors open at 1 p.m. for Friday’s official pre-fight weigh-in.

The 32-year-old Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 knockouts) will face the 38-year-old Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KOs) in their third meeting, having battled Marquez through a draw and a disputed split-decision victory in 2004 and 2008.
