Frazier followed up the Machen victory with a sixth-round knockout of former contender Doug Jones in his adopted hometown of Philadelphia in February of 1967. Jones was best known for giving Ali hell in a close 10-round loss to the future champ in 1963. The hardnosed New Yorker had only been stopped once, an 11th-round TKO to bigger fellow contender George Chuvalo in ’64, going into the Frazier fight.
