Maccarinelli debuts at 175, stops Marosi in 1

Former WBO cruiserweight titleholder Enzo Maccarinelli took a successful first step towards a comeback as a 175-pounder in London, England, on Friday, with a first-round stoppage of unfancied Hungarian Gyorgy Marosi.

The 31-year-old Welshman’s light heavyweight debut could not have been more straightforward, as one left hook and a follow-up right ended the contest at York Hall, Bethnal Green, with only one minute and 31 seconds on the clock.

“I always should have been a light heavyweight,” said Maccarinelli (33-5, 26 knockouts) after his first outing since being thumped in seven rounds by Germany’s Alexander Frenkel for the European Cruiserweight title 14 months ago. “The ultimate goal is a world title. I hit as hard as ever at light heavyweight.”
