The Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic final and the battle for THE RING’s vacant super middleweight title belt will finally take place on Saturday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
THE RING’s 9-ranked pound-for-pound fighter, Andre Ward (24-0, 13 knockouts) will put his WBA belt on the line against WBC titleholder Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KOs) in a matchup that promises to end the year with a bang.
In the tournament, Ward, of Oakland, Calif., has out-pointed former four-time beltholder Mikkel Kessler, once-beaten contender Allan Green and former middleweight titleholder Arthur Abraham. Prior to facing Abraham, Ward decisioned RING-rated Sakio Bika in a non-tournament bout.
Froch, of Nottingham, England, out-pointed previously undefeated prospect Andre Dirrell, lost a close and thrilling 12 rounder to Kessler in the Dane’s home country, rebounded with a one-sided decision over Abraham, and out-boxed former light heavyweight champ Glen Johnson in an entertaining defense of his WBC crown.
RingTV.com culled the opinions of 24 boxing experts on what they think will transpire in this showdown between THE RING’s Nos. 1- and 2-ranked super middleweights.
Andre Ward UD 12 Carl Froch: I think that it’s a very interesting fight. You’ve got the will of Carl Froch, and the skill of Andre Ward.
As much as I might kind of like to see Froch winning the fight, I think that Ward is going to take over and that he will pound out a workmanlike unanimous decision.
