Ring Ratings Update: Looking ahead

There are no changes in THE RING Ratings this week but things begin to heat up over the weekend.

In the year’s biggest fight yet, WBA junior featherweight titleholder Rico Ramos, rated No. 2, takes on No. 6 Guillermo Rigondeaux this Friday in a Showtime-televised card from Las Vegas.

Ramos (21-0, 11 knockouts) won the title in his last outing by stopping Akifumi Shimoda in seven rounds in a fight he was losing. Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KOs) has little pro experience but the Cuban defector was one of the best amateurs of his era, meaning he is a colossal challenge for Ramos.

Three other rated fighters also are in action Friday and Saturday.

RING RATINGS UPDATE

Heavyweight: No. 10 Kubrat Pulev retained his position by stopping Michael Sprott in 10 rounds Saturday in Germany.

Super middleweight: Robert Stieglitz easily outpointed Henry Weber on Saturday in Germany to remain at No. 4. And Arthur Abraham, No. 9, stayed put with a fifth-round KO of Pablo Farias on the same card.
