Cory Spinks ouboxed Sechew Powell to a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday in Springfield, Mo. The former undisputed welterweight champ and two-time 154-pound beltholder won by scores of 116-112 and 115-113 (twice).
Spinks (39-6, 11 knockouts), of St. Louis, won his second bout since losing the IBF junior middleweight title to Cornelius Bundrage via fifth-round knockout in 2010. The bout with Powell (26-4, 15 KOs), of Brooklyn, N.Y., was an elimination bout for Bundrage’s IBF junior middleweight title.
In the co-featured bout of the Don KIng/Danger Boy Events-promoted card held at the Shrine Mosque, once-beaten cruiserweight veteran BJ Flores stopped Hugo Pineda in the sixth round of a scheduled 10-round bout.
Flores (27-1-1, 17 KOs), who grew up in the Springfield area, won his thrid consecutive fight since dropping a unanimous decision to Danny Green in late 2010.
Pineda (39-9-1, 28 KOs), a former 140-pound and welterweight title challenger from Colombia, lost his third straight bout after a three and half period of inactivity.
