Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. retained his WBC middleweight belt with a hard-fought unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.
Chavez (45-0-1, 31 knockouts), the bigger, stronger, harder punching and more aggressive fighter in the fast-paced 12-round bout, won by scores of 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113.
The younger man was able to bully Rubio to the ropes, where he was able to impose his 181 pounds on the busier veteran, in almost every rounds. Some rounds, the 11th in particular, exhibited heated exchanges.
A full ringside report from Bart Barry will be posted later in the evening.
