Magdaleno, Garcia win on ShoBox

Junior lightweight contender Diego Magdaleno remained undefeated with a seventh-round stoppage of Fernando Beltran Jr. in a ShoBox: The New Generation main event from Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday.

Magdaleno (22-0, 8 knockouts), of Las Vegas, dropped Beltran with a straight left in the fourth round and continued press and punish the former two-time junior featherweight title challenger with crisp combinations until he scored another knockdown in the seventh, prompting the Mexican veteran’s corner to throw in the towel.

In the co-featured of the Showtime broadcast, Johnny Garcia, of Holland, Mich., got up form a fifth-round knockdown to outwork and outpoint Cuban prospect Yordenis Ugas by narrow split decision in an eight-round junior welterweight bout.

Ugas (11-1, 5 KOs), a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, was the sharper and more accurate puncher in the bout, but Garcia (12-0, 8 KOs) outhustled the Cuban in the eyes of two judges, winning by scores of 76-75, while one judge scored the same total for Ugas.
