“We’re talking about May 26,”’ said Margarito said through an interpreter after his brother-in-law, super-flyweight Hanzel Martinez, scored a first-round stoppage of Jose Miguel Tamayo at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz.
Diaz said June 15 is also a possibility at Casino Del Sol’s outdoor stadium, where Friday night’s Martinez-Tamayo fight was held in one of the casino’s ballrooms.
“May or June is fine,”’ said Margarito, who is coming off December’s 10th-round knockout loss to Miguel Cotto in New York’s Madision Square Garden where his surgically-repaired right eye was badly bloodied by Cotto.
Margarito also said that he is targeting a September clash with WBC beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., who, like Margarito, is promoted by Top Rank Inc.
Margarito suffered a fractured right orbital bone during a unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in November of 2010, necessitating the surgery to his eye.
