LAS VEGAS — Southpaw junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara will face twice-beaten Freddie Hernandez on the undercard of a Showtime-televised rematch between IBF junior middleweight titleholder Cornelius Bundrage and ex-beltholder Cory Spinks on June 30, according to Lara’s manager, Luis DeCubas Jr.
Lara (16-1-1, 11 knockouts) is coming off a first-round knockout of Ronald Hearns in April. Prior to facing Hearns, Lara had not been in the ring since July of last year, when he lost a disputed majority decision to left-handed Paul Williams which many observers thought Lara had won.
Hernandez (30-2, 20 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision over former titleholder Luis Collazo in October that helped him to rebound from a first-round stoppage loss to two-time beltholder Andre Berto in November of 2010.
“We’re going to stay busy and stay sharp. It’s more of a stay-busy fight, so we’re going to fight Freddie Hernandez on June 30 on ShoBox Special Edition,” said DeCubas Jr., of a matchup that will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif.
“We’re looking forward to watching Cory Spinks and K-9 Bundrage, and it looks like we may be in line to face the winner of that fight next.”
