Mexican titleholder Orlando Salido will face Oscar Bravo, of Chile, in a 10-round junior lightweight bout on July 28 in Obregon, Mex., and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. will meet Rafael Marquez on Aug. 4 in Puerto Rico, according to Sean Gibbons of Zanfer Promotions.
Salido (38-11-2, 26 knockouts), who holds the WBO’s featherweight title, is rising in weight following the second of two stoppage wins over Juan Manuel Lopez (31-2, 28 KOs), the first of which earned him the belt.
Salido has his sights on fighters such as WBO junior lightweight titleholder Adrien Broner or the winner of a targeted clash between featherweight contender Miguel “Mikey” Garcia and WBA beltholder Celestino Caballero.
“This is just 10-round non-title fight to stay active while he’s trying to secure a big fight with Broner or with Mikey Garcia or with any of the top 126- or 130-pounders,” said Gibbons. “So this is something to keep him active. The inactivity kills a lot of guys.”
“So Orlando’s going to fight this one at 130 because he wants to see what he feels like at 130 in case he can land a Broner fight. If not, he can stay at 126 and do a Garcia fight if he becomes available, or Caballero. The winner of that fight. You have to be versatile.”
Bravo (20-3, 9 KOs) has won three of his last five bouts, including two straight, and is coming off a second round knockout of Nestor Lagos in September.
Vazquez (21-2-1, 18 KOs) has lost two of his past three fights, having sandwiched a third-round knockout of Roberto Carlos Leyva in October between losses by 12th-round knockout and split-decision to four-division titlewinner Jorge Arce and WBO junior featherweight beltholder Nonito Donaire, respectively.
The younger brother of four-division titlewinner Juan Manuel Marquez, Rafael Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs) is coming off a first-round stoppage of Eric Aiken in May that helped him to rebound from a unanimous-decision loss to Toshiaki Nishioka in October.
Featured on the same card as Vazquez-Marquez is a junior lightweight matchup between Miguel Beltran (27-1, 17 KOs) and Roman “Rockey” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs).
