Ring Ratings Update: Bundrage, Lara move up

Next week is a busy one, as no fewer than 11 fighters rated by THE RING are in action.

And we’re talking about some big names. Among those on the list: heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, junior featherweight star Nonito Donaire and rising British contender Kell Brook. (See schedule below.)

This past weekend? Well, it was kind of quiet.

Cornelius Bundrage and Erislandy Lara scored nice victories on Saturday in Indio, Calif., Bundrage a seventh-round KO of Cory Spinks in their rematch and Lara a unanimous decision over Freddy Hernandez.

The victories apparently keep them in the hunt for a big-money fight against Canelo Alvarez and also bumped them up in the 154-pound ratings.

Bundrage (No. 9 last week) changes places with Alfredo Angulo (No. 8 last week), who is coming off a sixth-round knockout loss to James Kirkland in November and is trying to get his affairs in order.

Lara (No. 5 last week) flops with Vanes Martirosyan (No. 4 last week) because his opposition has been superior to that of the former U.S. Olympian, who faces Ryan Davis on Saturday.

Light heavyweight: Zsolt Erdei (No. 5 last week) has been dropped from the ratings because of inactivity; he hasn’t found since June 4 of last year.

Erdei is replaced by German veteran Juergen Braehmer, who enters the 175-pound ratings at No. 10. Braehmer (38-2, 30 knockouts) is a former WBO titleholder who hasn’t lost since 2008.

Junior welterweight: Timothy Bradley (No. 1 last week) has been removed from the ratings after telling THE RING that he won’t fight again at 140 pounds.

That pushes everyone from No. 2 to No. 10 up one notch and makes room for unbeaten Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev, who stopped tough Kaiser Mabuza in four rounds Wednesday in Moscow, to enter at No. 10.

Allakhverdiev (17-0, 8 KOs) also has beaten Nate Campbell and Ignacio Mendoza.
