The Editorial Board and Ratings Panel had a relatively uneventful week, although there were substractions and additions in four weight divisions.
Marcos Maidana (No. 6 at junior welterweight last week) drops out of the 140-pound ratings because he has moved up in weight. The same goes for Adrien Broner (No. 3 at junior lightweight last week) at 130, Vic Darchinyan (No. 8 at bantamweight last week) at 118 and Juan Palacios (No. 7 at strawweight last week) at 105.
So our mission was to determine who would fill the vacancies. All entered at No. 10.
At 140, we decided on Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19 knockouts). The Mexican has three consecutive victories over solid opponents since he gave Erik Morales a tough fight in defeat last year.
Bryan Vasquez (29-0, 15 KOs) was our choice at 130. The 24-year-old Costa Rican has dominated three consecutive solid opponents, stopping Mexican veteran Jorge Lacierva (with a body attack) in the ninth round of his most recent fight.
At 118, AJ Banal (28-1-1, 20 KOs) of the Philippines cracks the Top 10. He has won 11 consecutive fights since he was stopped by Rafael Concepcion in 2008.
And Paipharob Kokietgym (19-0, 16 KOs) claims the No. 10 position at 105. The Thai is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over Jesus Silvestre in November.
