SAN JOSE, Calif. – George Groves stopped Francisco Sierra at 2:15 of the sixth round in a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout on the Robert Guerrero-Selcuk Aydin card Saturday.
Groves (15-0, 12 knockouts) had landed the bigger punches from the beginning but the fight was competitive until the final round. The Briton then landed a right-left-right-left combination that floored Sierra (24-6-1, 22 KOs) and hurt him badly.
The Mexican was able to get up but absorbed another solid combination that prompted his corner to throw in the the towel.
Groves, THE RING’s No. 6-rated super middleweight, was cut to the side of his right eye but it wasn’t a factor in the fight.
