Scottish star Ricky Burns has successfully retained his WBO lightweight title after a stunning fourth round TKO victory over England rival Kevin Mitchell at the SECC in Glasgow on Saturday.
Two-weight holder and home favorite Burns, ranked No. 3 by THE RING, stunned a packed house by dropping Essex challenger Mitchell, 27, twice in the last minute of round four before the referee rightly called an end to the one-way battering.
“I said Kevin would bring out the best in me and he did. The whole build-up went perfectly and I just feel so much physically stronger now,” said 29 year-old Burns (35-2, 10 knockouts), who stepped up from 130 pounds this time last year.
