Angulo stops Casarez in 56 seconds

LOS ANGELES – Alfredo Angulo (21-2, 18 knockouts) stopped Raul Casarez (19-3, 9 KOs) with a left hook only 56 seconds into their scheduled 12-round junior middleweight fight on the Abner Mares-Anselmo Moreno card Saturday at Staples Center.

Angulo landed a series of hard punches before the hook knocked Casarez flat on his back and hurt him badly. He tried and failed to get up, prompting referee Jose Cobian to stop the fight.

Angulo hadn’t fought since he was stopped by James Kirkland in six rounds on Nov. 5 of last year.

A full report will follow shortly.
