Lem’s latest: Donaire weighs 121.5 to 122 for Arce; Lampley’s ‘Fight Game’

RING and WBO junior featherweight champion Nonito Donaire weighed 121.5 pounds compared to the division limit of 122 even for four-division titlewinner Jorge Arce on Friday in advance of Saturday night’s match up from Houston’s Toyota Center.

A 33-year-old from Los Mochis, Mexico, Arce (61-6-2, 46 knockouts) takes an unbeaten streak of 9-0-1 that includes six knockouts into the clash with Donaire (30-1, 19 KOs).

Arce’s run includes a come-from-behind 12th-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. in May of last year during which he rose from a fourth-round knockdown to end Vazquez’s streak of five consecutive knockouts.

In February, two bouts after facing Arce, Vazquez Jr. gave Donaire a tough fight on the way to falling by split-decision following a brutal brawl during which the loser was dropped in the ninth round.

The fourth edition of HBO’s The Fight Game, hosted by four-time Sport Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Jim Lampley, will air on Saturday from 11:20-to-11:50 p.m. ET/ tape-delayed PT from the Toyota Center following the 9:30 p.m. broadcast of Donaire-Arce.

Donaire-Arce will preceded by the replaying of the Dec. 8, sixth-round knockout by four-division titlewinner Juan Manuel Marquez over eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, the latter of which will be part of The Fight Game broadcast.
