The following is a round-by-round account of Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees, as tweeted live by THE RING Magazine Editor Michael Rosenthal:
Good round. Rees looked better than expected. Aggressive, landed some shots. We’re just getting started, though.
Rees is still holding his own but Broner is finding the range. The fight is competitive. Surprise, surprise.
Gotta love Rees’ confidence but Broner landed some eye-catching shots. Broner seems to be taking charge
Right uppercut puts Rees on his butt. Seems to be hurt. … Big round for Broner. Put Rees down and landed many more hard, hard shots. Not sure how much longer this’ll last. … Sounds like the trainer wants to stop it.
Rees down again, fight over. … It took Broner a few rounds to get rolling but once he did … whoa. He turned a competitive fight into a wipe out. Good job by Gary Lockett, Rees’ trainer. He knew his fighter faced too much danger and waved off the fight. Official time was 2:59 of Round 5.
