Denis Grachev defeated former light heavyweight titleholder and previously unbeaten Zsolt Erdei by a split 10-round decision on the Gennady Golovkin-Nobuhiro Ishida card Saturday in Monaco.
All three scores were 96-94, two for Grachev and one for Erdei.
Erdei (33-1, 18 knockouts), returning from a 22-month layoff, controlled the first half of fight with his left jab and excellent movement. However, Grachev (13-1-1, 8 KOs) came back in the second half of the fight by applying constant pressure.
Neither fighter went down or was seriously hurt.
Erdei hadn’t fought since he stopped Byron Mitchell in six rounds in June 2011. Grachev was coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Lucian Bute in November.
