Ring Ratings Update: the calm before the storm

There was very little action this past week which resulted in no movement in the ratings. Let’s call it the calm before the storm due to the fact that there are some excellent matchups this summer and fall.

At lightweight, Ameth Diaz positioned himself for a chance to fight for a world title by stopping Martin Gethin. The fight was an IBF lightweight title eliminator. Gethin was dropped once in the sixth round and twice in the seventh resulting in a stoppage in the seventh.

At junior featherweight, former 108-pound champ and 115-pound beltholder Hugo Cazares won by KO in the first round over Gabriel Altarejos.

Teon Kennedy fought up at 130 pounds but will probably return back to junior featherweight. Kennedy beat Carlos Vinan by unanimous decision.

At bantamweight, Hugo Ruiz stopped Giovanni Caro in the second, bouncing back from a split decision loss to Koki Kameda in his previous fight.

Ryo Akaho stopped journeyman Elmar Francisco in the fourth. This was Akaho’s first outing since he lost his title challenge last year to Yota Sato.

At flyweight, former titleholder Hernan Marquez won by a large margin decision beating tough former 108-pound beltholder Carlos Tamara, becoming the mandatory challenger to Juan Estrada’s WBO title.

At strawweight, Wanheng Menayothin stopped Raul Pusta Jr. in the 10th.

No changes in any of the divisional ratings.
