Jimmy Lennon makes the introductions: Gonzalez, bouncing on his toes in his corner and firing punches at an imaginary opponent, is roundly booed. .

MARES GOES DOWN TO HIS BACK FROM A WICKED LEFT HOOK!!!! HE’S UP, BUT BADLY HURT. REFEREE Jack Reiss asks “are you okay?” Mares answers in the affirmative. Reiss asks if he wants to contiue, and he again says “yes.” Reiss steps back and asks Mares to “walk to me,” which he does. BUT GONZALES IS ON HIM AGAIN AND LANDS TWO LEFTS AND A FOLLOW-UP RIGHT ALONG THE ROPES. MARES IS DOWN AGAIN, TRIES TO GET UP BY PLACING HIS LEFT HAND ON THE ROPES. REISS REACHES THE COUNT OF THREE, THEN WAVES IT OFF.
