ONTARIO, Calif. – Andre Ward defeated Edwin Rodriguez by a one-sided decision Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ward’s first fight since he stopped Chad Dawson in September of last year.
Ward (27-0, 14 knockouts) outclassed Rodriguez from the beginning, picking apart his game but overmatched foe with a wide assortment of punches to both the head and body and barely getting touched himself.
The scores were 118-106 (a shutout), 117-107 and 116-108. Both fighters lost two points for punching on the break.
Ward’s RING and WBA’s super middleweight titles were not at stake because Rodriguez (24-1, 16 KOs) missed the 168-pound limit by two pounds Friday.
Rodriguez also had to pay $200,000 and make a 180-pound limit on Saturday.
