RING and IBF cruiserweight titleholder Yoan Pablo Hernandez scored knockdowns in the second, fifth and final rounds of a 10th-round knockout over challenger Alexander Alekseev on Saturday in Bamberg, Germany.
Hernandez (28-1, 14 knockouts) came up with his 14th straight victory and his sixth stoppage win during that time against Alekseev (24-3-1, 20 KOs), who was 5-0-1 with three knockouts since being knocked out in the second round by Denis Lebedev in 2010.
Alekseev rose after being floored the first two times, but failed to do so after the third, and was counted out at the 1:35 mark by referee Lindsey Page.
Promoted by Sauerland Events, the card also included a clash during which heavyweight Denis Boytsov (33-1, 26 KOs) was floored in the seventh and ninth rounds of an upset loss to Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KOs) by unanimous decision.
A winner by scores of 96-92 on the cards of Gerhard Sigl and Matteo Montella, and 98-92 on that of Zolton Enyedi, Leapai entered the bout having scored four straight knockout victories since being stopped in the ninth round by Kevin Johnson in April of 2012.
