Sergey Kovalev stops Ismayl Sillakh 52 seconds into the second round

Sergey Kovalev stopped Ismayl Sillakh 52 seconds into the second round to retain his WBO light heavyweight title on the Adonis Stevenson-Tony Bellew card Saturday in Quebec City, Canada.

Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 knockouts) put Sillakh (21-2, 17 KOs) down with a right to side of the head about 30 seconds into Round 2, hurting him badly. Sillakh got up on shaky legs but went down again from a right-left combination, which left him unable to continue.

Kovalev now has seven consecutive knockouts, six within four rounds. Sillakh, a one-time amateur star from Ukraine, had bounced back from a knockout loss to Denis Grachev last year to win four in a row.

A full report will follow shortly.
