Adonis Stevenson knocks out Tony Bellew in the sixth round

Adonis Stevenson knocked out Tony Bellew at 1:50 of the sixth round to retain his RING and WBC light heavyweight titles Saturday in Quebec City, Canada.

Stevenson (23-1, 20 KOs) knocked Bellew (20-2-1, 12 KOs) down with a straight left to the jaw in the sixth, the first knockdown of the fight. Bellew got up but seconds later was hurt badly by another left, followed by a short barrage with his back to the ropes, and the fight was stopped.

Bellew fought very cautiously for most of the fight, denying himself a chance to win the fight. He appeared to lose each of the first five rounds.

Stevenson has won 10 consecutive fights – all by knockout – since he was stopped in two rounds by Darnell Boone in 2010. Bellew hadn’t lost since he was outpointed by Nathan Cleverly in 2011.

A full report will follow shortly.
